Every year on the first Sunday in August, the flags of many nations fly on the battlements of Rheinfels Castle, the time has come for the Hansen to celebrate the Hansen Festival and welcome new Hansen brothers into the order. The Hansa family from all over the world meets here for the annual convention, transcending national and continental borders, to cultivate customs and friendships.
The Hansenfest in the courtyard of Rheinfels Castle deepens Hansen friendships in the historic setting of the Ordensburg. Guests and royalty from the Rhine from near and far, the Hansen brothers from all over the world, the Arizona, Waldstätte and Niederrhein commanderies spend convivial hours together. Highlights for the Hanseatic family will be the parade on Sunday and the Hansungen der Fremdling on the fairground on Görtzplatz at Rheinfels Castle.
According to old tradition, the Hansungen are performed at the neck iron. Two guarantors stand by the stranger and pledge themselves to him.
On Saturday and Sunday, there will be a wide range of food and drink on offer for visitors to Rheinfels Castle and our guests.
‘Do not pass by St. Goar, the town that has always been hospitable’, begins a quote by Karl Simrock. We look forward to welcoming many guests to the Hansenfest, to populate the town and to pay a visit to Rheinfels Castle.
