Today's district town was founded on June 7, 1969 from the merger of the previously independent towns of Ahrweiler and Bad Neuenahr with the communities of Gimmigen, Heimersheim and Lohrsdorf.
The town of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler, seat of the Ahrweiler district administration, is one of the eight main municipalities in the Ahrweiler district. Today's district town was founded on June 7, 1969 from the merger of the previously independent towns of Ahrweiler and Bad Neuenahr with the communities of Gimmigen, Heimersheim and Lohrsdorf. Ramersbach was added on March 16, 1974.
