The Domhotel in Cologne is one of the oldest grand hotels in Europe.
After the collapse of the banqueting hall of the ‘Hotel du Dome’, which opened in 1857, in 1885, the second ‘Hotel du Dome’ was built in 1866 in the Italian Renaissance style.
At the insistence of the cathedral building association, the third cathedral hotel was built on the same site between 1890 and 1893 so as not to obscure the cathedral, which had been completed in the meantime.
