The first baby elephant born at Cologne Zoo was ‘Marlar’.

12 Asian elephants live in the Cologne Elephant Park. Without direct contact with the keepers, they live here in their natural family group, led by a lead cow. The sixth cub was born in the Elephant Park in 2012.

The first baby elephant born at Cologne Zoo was Marlar:
In keeping with her name, which means ‘blossom’, Marlar's birth on 30 March 2006 brought springtime joy and excitement to the whole of Cologne. Her mother Kaingh Lwin Htoo had to be put to sleep six months later, in December 2006, due to an untreatable bladder prolapse. Since then, her Thai ‘aunts’ have been looking after the curious, lively and very independent young cow, especially Laongdaw.
