Ferdinand Freiligrath was born on 17 June 1810 in Detmold and died on 18 March 1876 in Cannstatt near Stuttgart. He was a German lyricist, poet and translator.
His mother came from Cologne-Mühlheim, which made Freiligrath half Rhinelander.
The ‘trumpeter of the revolution’, as he liked to call himself, was driven into exile twice by the Prussians.
