A Cologne baroque orchestra with exquisite voices and a conductor from New York perform Handel's “Chandos Anthems” in the beautiful Liebfrauenkirche in Oberwesel. A quarter of a century before the “Messiah”, Handel composed these biblical cantatas for a small church in the Cannons district of London and for the powerful Duke of Chandos. Everything that he was later to sing in grand style in his oratorios is already anticipated here in touching tones.
