The Max Ernst Museum Brühl of the LVR is the world's first and only museum dedicated to the work of the artist of the century and cosmopolitan Max Ernst (1891-1976). It presents an overview of the Dadaist and Surrealist artist's extensive oeuvre, whose pictorial worlds are characterised by astounding ingenuity and brilliant inspiration like almost no other artist of the 20th century.
Max Ernst not only created a large number of paintings, collages, prints, sculptures and assemblages; his unbridled creativity was also reflected in numerous books, artist portfolios and poems. In his pictorial worlds we encounter poetic landscapes, fantastic compositions and bizarre creatures whose inventiveness and witty humour fascinate and at the same time confuse, triggering an inexpressible pull of suggestion in the viewer.
