“Experience with all senses” is the motto in the new adventure museum at the beginning of the UNESCO World Heritage Limes in Rheinbrohl. The approximately 200 square meter exhibition in the museum provides information about the approximately 550 km long Limes and the life of the people on this former border wall between the Roman Empire and “Free Germania” almost 2000 years ago.
Particular attention is paid to the opportunity for visitors to become active themselves. What did the everyday life of the “auxiliary soldiers” look like or what was the inside of a tower like? How heavy was the equipment and how does chain mail feel on your own body? These and other questions are answered through stories to listen to, stations to try out for yourself and multimedia presentations. Touching is permitted and desired in the RömerWelt!
On the outdoor area, Roman crafts, among other things, are presented in the reconstructed “Vicus building”. A herb garden and a children's playground offer new activity areas to discover, experience and understand.
Events and offers for groups and school classes, such as a museum rally, round off the offering.
The location of the Roman world also invites you to take part in other activities: the attractive Westerwaldsteig hiking trail begins directly at the museum, and after just a few meters it meets the Rheinsteig and then the Limes hiking trail. A new circular route, the “RömerWeltWeg” with start and finish at RömerWelt, complements the varied tours. Enchanting views and far-reaching views are guaranteed.
