If you hike on the Rheinsteig through the municipality of Bad Hönningen you will reach the Rheinbrohler Ley on the way from Rheinbrohl towards Leutesdorf.
Below the highest viewing point at the Leyhäuschen (which is sponsored by the Catholic Bachelor's Association 1797 Rheinbrohl) with a wide view of Hammerstein, the Hammerstein Island and Andernach, is the 29er Memorial.
This memorial and memorial was built between 1931 and 1933 by soldiers returning home from the First World War as a replacement resting place for the 3,540 fallen soldiers of Infantry Regiment No. 29 (3rd Rhineland) von Horn, whose names are inscribed in gold The book is locked inside the chapel. Carl Burger from Mayen was commissioned to build it and today the memorial is sponsored by the district of Neuwied, the municipality of Bad Hönningen and the local community of Rheinbrohl as a memorial for all victims of war, terror and violence.
Every year on Remembrance Day, the local community of Rheinbrohl holds a memorial hour. In 1958, the association of former 29ers and supporters of the memorial was founded, which, together with other supporters, is responsible for its preservation and carries out cleaning operations several times a year.
From the viewing platform in front of the chapel you can enjoy a beautiful view of the towns of Rheinbrohl and Bad Hönningen as well as Brohl and Bad Breisig on the opposite side of the Rhine. The memorial is open to groups of visitors by arrangement - tours are generally free of charge, donations for continued preservation are gladly accepted.
