The steepest vineyards and one of the most beautiful riverside promenades on the Middle Rhine, the oldest preserved Roman fort walls north of the Alps and the birthplace of Michael Thonet, a world-famous chair designer - visitors to Boppard can expect a variety-packed holiday. Boppard not only has a lot of history and culture to offer, but is also located in one of the most beautiful landscapes in Germany, the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2002.

However, Boppard was already a magnet for visitors long before its UNESCO status. This is not only due to the glamorous riverside promenade, which invites you to take a relaxing stroll, or the stroll through the town, which quickly becomes a walk through history. In addition to the Celts, the Romans have left particularly clear traces. On the edge of the old town, the walls of the Bodobrica fort, built in 360 AD, still rise up to 9 metres into the air.
The twin-towered, late Romanesque church of St Severus (13th century), built over the Roman military baths, is architecturally rich and incredibly decoratively painted.

A stroll through the wine town of Boppard naturally comes to a fitting end in one of the numerous wine taverns. Here you will find the best wines from the Middle Rhine. The ‘Bopparder Hamm’ wine-growing region stretches along the large Rhine bend in a sunny south-facing location.

The Boppard cable car and the Hunsrückbahn railway are among the more leisurely and less everyday transport options and lead to numerous starting points for hiking and cycling tours, such as the RheinBurgenWeg quality hiking trail, the Rheinsteig, the Traumschleifen Saar-Hunsrück-Steig and the Schinderhannes cycle path. For sporty visitors to the town, we recommend the Mittelrheinklettersteig, the sporty version of the Rheinburgenweg.
