Around the Königsstuhl

The election of German kings by the 7 electors took place at the Königsstuhl. Famous rulers such as Rudolf of Habsburg or Ludwig the Bavarian as well as Charles IV stood for election.
Although the function of the royal chair was later cancelled, it retained its symbolic character.

In 1929, it moved from the Nussbaumgarten on the edge of Rhens to its current location on the Schawall hill on the Rhine, offering a magnificent panoramic view of the Rhine Valley.

Passing dreamy little towns with winding alleyways and pretty half-timbered houses, Father Rhine meanders through the centre of the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley. The historic town of Rhens and the charming villages of Brey and Spay are located on the largest loop of the river. Together with Waldesch - nestled in the northern foothills of the Hunsrück - these four towns form the attractive holiday region ‘Around the Königsstuhl’.
Charming hiking trails and dream paths lead through the romantic Rhine-Burgen-Land. Whether the Rheingoldbogen, Saynsteig or Wolfsdelle - these dream trails will transport you to another world.
The World Heritage area also has a lot to offer cyclists. The heinradweg cycle path is almost completely developed on the left bank of the Rhine. There are also attractive and varied tours of all levels of difficulty on the heights.
