The Wallraf-Richartz-Museum - Fondation Corboud can be traced back to the extensive legacy left in the will of the versatile scholar and collector Ferdinand Franz Wallraf (1748-1824), which in turn was mainly fed by secularisation assets.
The Wallraf-Richartz-Museum - Fondation Corboud is one of the largest classical painting galleries in Germany. The collection focuses on the medieval section, which provides an almost complete overview of the development of Cologne panel painting from 1300 to 1550, the baroque section, which boasts major works by Rubens and Rembrandt, among others, and the 19th century section, which displays sculptures alongside paintings from the Romantic, Realist and Impressionist periods (including the Corboud Collection). The prints and drawings collection, which comprises around 75,000 sheets, can be viewed at certain times and by appointment.
